WE GOT SPIRIT is a collection of relief prints, drawings and digital works created to combine memory and present time. Utilizing the floors and walls of Leverett Elementary for texture in relief print making, the paper becomes a canvas of both time and emotion. Stairs, walls, concrete bricks, wood floors and parking lot asphalt becomes a language, communicating multiple surfaces in one composition to reflect on the fragile ecosystem the school houses. Through studio process the reliefs became written word, shifting from subtle to ‘on point’ statements that communicate self worth and praise. Digital manipulation of creating the written statements pushes the textured images to a new life. The places students walk, play and learn is a beginning. My time as a student was some of the best memories I have of Fayetteville. WE GOT SPIRIT is a return to my past and an effort to influence the future of someone whom walks the same as I did.
